Komiya, a wealthy medical professor, and his overbearing wife, Tokio, find themselves responsible for looking after Setsuko, their spirited niece from Osaka. Setsuko is a free-spirited young woman who marches to the beat of her own drum, unapologetically indulging in behaviors like smoking, despite being underage. One Saturday, the professor isnt in the mood for his usual weekend golf game, but his wife insists he goes anyway. Reluctantly, he leaves his golf bag at the apartment of his student, Okada, and heads to a bar with a friend instead.Setsuko tracks him down at the bar and demands that he take her to a geisha house for some entertainment. As the night progresses, Setsuko becomes quite tipsy, prompting the professor to call Okada to escort her back home while he decides to spend the night at Okadas place. Tokio starts to grow suspicious of Setsuko when she witnesses Okada bringing her niece home, and her doubts only deepen when she learns that her husband never actually went for his golfing activity as planned.
